About
THE ORGANIZATION:
The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is an
international feminist organization working to strengthen the voice,
impact and influence of women's rights advocates, organizations and
movements internationally.
DESCRIPTION:
AWID is seeking a program assistant to provide administrative and
some programmatic support. The successful candidate should have a
strong interest and some background experience in feminist organizing
and women's movements.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
-- Coordinating production of articles and publications
-- Drafting occasional program correspondence, website updates and
other communications
-- Proofreading and copyediting texts
-- Supporting on-going research and writing
-- Supporting meeting organization and logistics
-- Updating and maintaining contacts database and 'e-library'
-- Occasionally representing AWID in relevant meetings
-- Supporting activities and sessions for the 2008 International
AWID Forum.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
-- Two or more years of relevant experience
-- Some experience in at least one of the following areas:
research & writing; implementing educational/learning/training
processes; implementing social justice projects and initiatives
-- Knowledgeable (or strong interest in) women's human rights
and/or gender and development at the regional or international level
-- University degree or equivalent direct experience, preferably
with a focus on gender and development, organization development,
community development, or a related social science field
-- Strong communications skills
-- Strong administrative and extensive computer skills, including
word processing, presentation packages (Power Point), Internet, and
email.
-- Able to work in a diverse, fast-paced environment, with
flexibility.
-- Proactive, problem-solving capacity, able to work independently
and effectively in a small, virtual team.
-- Written and spoken fluency in English
-- Language skills in French and/or Spanish highly desirable.
