About

WiserEarth's "Solutions" Intern

WiserEarth seeks an intern to join our WiserEarth team based in Sausalito, California. WiserEarth is a community networking forum for civil society, the private sector, and government to collaborate, define, address, and solve social and environmental problems.

The WiserEarth team has been working with a number of organizations from the conservation community (IUCN, Rare, The Nature Conservancy and others) to create a "Solutions" module on WiserEarth. This collaboration tool allows members to describe and catalogue solutions to various environmental and social threats. Members of WiserEarth will be able to rate the quality of the solutions, make recommendations for improvements, and provide incentives to the community to develop new solutions where gaps exist. Out of this will emerge a vibrant, community-driven collection of best practices and case studies that will offer people an immediate, tangible way to work towards change.

Activities for the Solutions intern include but are not limited to:

  • Help catalogue the best practices of the biodiversity conservation movement
  • Create ‘solutions' documenting existing practices
  • Link to the WiserEarth network of organizations and people
  • Facility with computers and basic wiki section editing required
  • Conservation biology background preferred

Skills and Experience:

  • Research experience, excellent computer skills, eye for detail, self-motivated

  • Able to understand the mechanics of how online community programs and applications work enough to have ideas of your own
  • Good social skills online and in-person. Patience and strong interpersonal skills are a must
  • Strong, professional writing skills online and in the normal course of business.
  • A passion for and an understanding of how to leverage Web 2.0 tools for social change.
  • An interest in social justice and/or environmental sustainability is preferred
