
BayNVC Executive Director
BayNVC Director’s responsibilities include outreach, marketing,
fundraising, overall management of the organization. This person works
collaboratively with the Associate Director for Operations, Finance
Manager, project leaders and other staff to advance BayNVC’s capacity
to thrive and serve. The director reports to BayNVC’s board of
directors.
GENERAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The lists below are not intended as a comprehensive job description
but are meant to indicate the general areas of responsibility. Please
note that we currently have 10 paid mostly part-time staff and several
regular ongoing work-exchange team members who are handling most of the
tasks related to all but the planning and development areas.
Items below that are marked with ”=” will be the hands-on
responsibility of the Director. Starred areas are those which are
currently being handled day-to-day by paid and unpaid employees but
which will be overseen by the Director. These areas will require
attention, some initial and some ongoing, to create more efficient
systems, increase effectiveness and productivity, re-organize as needed
and set priorities.
Accounting
= Create and track budgets and business plans (with Finance Director and Board)
= Financial planning (e.g. prudent investment of excess funds)
= Create policies in all area of legal, insurance and government
(business insurance, professional liability insurance, etc.)

Government & Legal
= Dealing with government interactions (with Finance Director and Board as needed)
Personnel
= Plan staffing requirements, roles and functions with Assoc Director as needed
= Determine pay-rates (with Finance Director, Assoc Director, and BayNVC co-founder as needed)
= Hiring and layoffs of all employees (in collaboration with staff)
= Managing, training and evaluating staff (paid and unpaid) as needed with Assoc Director
= Overseeing and building relationships with local collaborative
trainers with Assoc Director, including oversight and professional
development
= Negotiate and schedule trainings with non-local trainers with Assoc Director
Technology
= Overseeing and decision-making related to technology with Assoc Director as needed

Administration
= Reporting to board of directors
= Collaborating with staff on developing and revising strategic plans
= Overseeing development of written procedures
= Crisis Management/Overload Management (figuring out how the work
will get done in times when it seems there are not enough people to do

* Managing office space furnishings, maintenance and repairs
Development/Outreach
= Respond to inquiries for organizational work
= Develop and implement outreach strategies for organizational work
= Develop and implement ongoing press-release system to media
= Develop and implement ongoing publicity and outreach to bring awareness of NVC to the public
= Develop and implement a plan for increasing the attendance at our workshops
= Develop and implement a plan for maintaining connection with our students
= Oversee and initiate grant writing activities
= Develop and implement a plan for annual fundraising campaigns
= Develop and implement a plan for cultivating major donors
= Oversee quarterly production of donor newsletter, Speaking Peace news
= Oversee monthly e-newsletter production
= Oversee and regularly freshen web site content
= Initiate and respond to partnership possibilities with other networks and organizations
