MASTER HORTICULTURIST
Avalon Hot Springs is seeking an engaging, self-motivated individual who is keenly interested and experienced in sustainable practices and ecological awareness. The candidate will focus on promoting the Avalon Retreat Community (ARC) membership plan as part of our fundraising effort. This includes the following tasks:
Master Horticulturist– Manage Propagation Program (1 Position)
We seek an individual who is totally aligned with Avalon’s mission and consciousness, who wishes to move to Avalon, with 15+ years of nursery management and perennial and vegetable propagation experience.
This position requires skills in soil building and soil health, integrated pest management, automatic irrigation systems and drip systems, pruning, grafting and root stock selection, and general nursery management (including comprehensive record keeping.) Position may include seed saving and propagation of wild and cultured plant materials.
Individuals with experience in bio-dynamic farming, radionics and permaculture are ideal. We are looking for a person who wants to run a propagation program in community, and needs land, green houses and a nursery to work their magic. This person has strong interest in helping co-create a 318 acre, permaculture inspired food forest working with a team of eager students/workers/residents and junior horticulturists, and will lead teaching events/work parties. The propagation team will birth thousands of trees and plants that will be planted all over Avalon land over the next 3-5 years to create a food forest of diverse plants and trees.
Start time – immediately.
Available: Immediately
Duration: 6 months with possible extension.
