DESCRIPTION:
The Advocates for Human Rights is seeking a Staff Attorney for its
Women's Human Rights Program. The Advocates for Human Rights is a
volunteer-based, non-governmental, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization
dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally
recognized human rights.
The Women's Human Rights Program applies international human rights
standards to advocate for women's rights in the United States and
around the world. Using research, education and advocacy, the
program has partnered with local organizations overseas and in the
United States to document domestic violence, rape, employment
discrimination, sexual harassment in the workplace and trafficking in
women and girls for commercial sexual exploitation.
REQUIREMENTS:
-- J.D. with experience in women's human rights advocacy or
violence against women issues.
-- Human rights fact-finding or other international experience is
preferred.
-- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are required.
-- Candidates should be willing to travel internationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-- Legal research, writing, human rights advocacy including
documentation and training, and working with volunteers, interns,
advocacy groups and international partners.
-- Administration and content management of the Stop Violence
Against Women website and mentoring tool, (www.stopvaw.org).
