Join WiserEarth as a junior software developer and help the world's social justice and environment movement become more connected and effective. We are a global team working to provide the tools to empower activists, non-governmental organizations, academics, scientists, organizers and citizens. WiserEarth is the world's largest online database identifying the thousands of organizations throughout the world that address social justice, poverty, and the environment. In addition, we have groupware and numerous social media functionalities.
Position Description:
This is a 6 months contract position with the possibility to extend. The ideal candidate will be
passionate about applying their skills and experience on a project that
is trying to make a difference in the world. The work hours are
flexible, provided that deliverable timelines are met. The job role is junior software developer. You would be reporting directly to the Technical Director. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in learning to perfect test-driven agile web application development. You would be joining an experienced team that is continuously improving its processes while adopting and improving upon the most cutting-edge tools and technologies.
Responsibilities:
•Work on an existing web application www.wiserearth.org
•Work closely with technical team
•Work 2 days/week in Sausalito and the rest remotely
Experience:
•Web development - PHP, Javascript, SQL, AJAX, CSS, XHTML
•System administration – Linux, lighttpd, MySQL, Apache
•Experience with the Symfony framework, or any other MVC framework, like Rails or Struts
•Proven experience managing a Web 2.0 site
•Prior experience designing solutions for a cross-browser, cross-platform user community a plus
