Volunteer Coordinator - 5th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival 

 

Sustainable Ballard, “A Blueprint for EveryTown USA,” builds community and takes action on a neighborhood level in response to climate change, peak oil, and other sustainability challenges.  Each fall we host the Sustainable Ballard Festival, our biggest and most visible event. The festival is the culmination of all our work during the year, showcasing the projects and initiatives we have undertaken and engaging the community to reduce their impact on the environment. The festival also serves as Sustainable Ballard’s primary fundraiser for all its activities throughout the year.

 

We are looking for a self-motivated, highly organized person who supports community building at the grass-roots level to provide volunteer coordination for the 5th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival . 

 

Description:

Volunteer Coordinator

Work with Festival Coordinator and Sustainable Ballard Administrative Team to recruit and direct volunteer staff for the 2008 Fall Festival.

Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy 

Place flyers throughout the city and post volunteer listings to online services

Plan program of volunteer benefits and a volunteer appreciation event 

Work with planning committee to identify volunteer roles 

Communicate with volunteers and assign them tasks

Coordinate volunteers on-site during the festival 

Follow through with thank yous to volunteers

Prepare follow up report reviewing event successes and challenges

 

Required Skill, Experience and Knowledge: 

Grassroots volunteer recruitment and outreach experience in the Seattle area; connectivity within the community and a working knowledge of valuable recruiting methods and resources; willingness to work cooperatively with Festival Coordinator in securing volunteers for Sustainable Ballard Festival, provide on-site leadership during the event, and create post event report for  Festival Committee.    

 

Hours and Compensation:

Hours: Part time (approximately 125 hours total) with hours increasing as festival approaches, work at home, provide your own computer, software and phone.  Occasional evening meetings with festival planning committee (approximately 4).

Term: June 2008
 Mid-October 2008 (Festival Date: Sept 27-28, 2008)

Compensation: $2000
