About
THE POSITION:
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational
development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to
selected problems that impede social and economic development in
developing countries. The Aga Khan Foundation (Geneva) is seeking
qualified candidates to fill the position of Senior Regional
Programme Advisor for its rural development portfolio in Africa. This
is a new post based in either Dar es Salaam or Nairobi.
The increasing size and complexity of the AKF rural development
programme in Africa (Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mali and
Tanzania) has created an increased demand for high level and timely
technical assistance in areas such as agriculture, livestock, natural
resource management, infrastructure investment, community
development, enabling access to financial services, and enterprise
development.
The Advisor will lead on strategic development and provide technical
assistance and management guidance to individual country programmes.
The Advisor will also be expected to lead and bring innovation to new
areas of programme development such as tourism, environment and
alternative energies.
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong
technical background in rural and economic development. Knowledge of
and experience working in integrated multi-sector programmes is
essential. The candidate will also have:
-- A post-graduate degree (Masters or PhD), ideally in agriculture
or economics and 10+ years field experience in agriculture, rural and
economic development.
-- Excellent communications oral and written in English; French,
Portuguese or Kiswahili desirable.
-- Proven skills in managing and delivering technical assistance
and strategic development.
-- A good knowledge and understanding of the African context.
-- An ability and sensitivity to work within a decentralised
structure and within a network organisation.
