About
Associate Director, Research and Standards Department
We are currently seeking to hire an Associate Director to manage and facilitate the department activities, as well as guide and coordinate all worldwide technical initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to spearhead the development of our core technical programs, its scientific development, and standardization of its use and application throughout the world. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned manager, skilled at building consensus within diverse scientific communities, and will have a proven track record of leadership during rapid growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 years work experience in consulting, government, business, research and/or management
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Masters) in related field, such as environmental science, environmental or natural resource management, ecological economics
- Proven success at leading teams and mentoring and developing staff
- Track record of successfully managing large projects
- Experience working with governments and/or corporations
- Interest in global resource issues
- Willingness to travel
- Fluency in European languages a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position works closely with the Executive Director to guide our technical programs, is responsible for creating strategic partnerships with governments, scientific organizations, companies, and consultancies, provides strategic oversight of our standards development process and fosters consensus building among staff and partners on methodological and research issues.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manages all the activities of the research and standards department to support all the initiatives of the organization
- Supervises the development and implementation of the National Accounts Improvement Initiative, fosters an ambitious research agenda, and engages with the National Accounts Review Committee
- Directly leads or supervises the development and implementation of the Standards Initiative. Provides strategic oversight of our standards development process and fosters consensus building among staff and partners on methodological and research issues
- Leads the annual planning process for our technical programs and ensure the successful accomplishment of program goals
- Develops and supervises research collaborations with governments, academic institutions and partners
- Ensures the successful delivery of technical projects by supporting project managers in meeting goals, and by engaging directly with partners in high visibility or politically sensitive projects
- Works with the Development Director to secure funding for our technical programs
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This job entails a modest amount of international travel.
