BACKGROUND:
The International Women's Health Coalition (IWHC), an international
nonprofit organization, promotes and protects the sexual and
reproductive health and rights of women and young people worldwide.
IWHC's Latin America Program has worked for two decades with NGOs,
public institutions and international agencies to advance programs
and activities that will increase access to safe abortion, advance
youth health and rights, and promote sexual rights. The program
currently includes country programs in Brazil and Peru, as well as
region-wide initiatives and networks. In recent years IWHC has
increased support for efforts to decriminalize and legalize abortion
and improve abortion services, strengthened adolescent empowerment
activities, and expanded work with indigenous populations, among
other projects.
PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:
-- Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of
the Latin America program.
-- Provide programmatic and administrative support to the Program
Officer (PO) for Latin America.
-- Provide input to IWHC's overall program, strategy, and
organizational development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Latin America Program:
-- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of the Latin
America Program strategy, goals, activities and budget.
-- Assist PO in identifying opportunities for program development
in women's and youth sexual and reproductive rights and health in
Latin America, maintaining and developing relationships with Latin
American colleagues.
-- Assist PO in managing grants.
* IWHC Overall Program:
-- Contribute to IWHC's mission to promote, advocate and advance
sexual and reproductive rights and health (SRRH), and the overall
development and strengthening of the organization
-- Participate in IWHC's strategic thinking and planning for
development of program directions and initiatives.
-- Represent IWHC and serve as a resource on Latin American
women's sexual and reproductive rights and health in various
professional fora and publications.
-- Serve on various cross-functional teams, ensuring harmonization
of goals and priorities, and effective collaboration across regions
and departments.
-- Under direction of PO, contribute to the preparation of
institutional documents and publications as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-- Passion for IWHC's mission.
-- Three or more years work experience in women's rights;
experience in women's sexual and reproductive rights and health
preferred.
-- Knowledge of Latin America required, work experience with
organizations from the region preferred.
-- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with
colleagues from diverse disciplines, cultures and perspectives, and
demonstrated effectiveness at interaction in various settings and
fora.
-- Skills in one or more technical area (e.g. program
evaluation/assessment; organizational development and capacity-
building; advocacy; health sector reform or other relevant policy
processes).
-- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a
challenging environment, and to balance programmatic and
organizational needs.
-- Experience in working with budgets and financial reports.
-- Knowledge of donors and experience with fundraising preferred.
-- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-- Bilingual Portuguese/English or Spanish/English, both written
and spoken. Trilingual ability (Portuguese, Spanish, and English)
preferred.
-- Willingness to travel to and within Latin America up to 25
percent of time.
