Together with our partners, we coordinate research, develop methodological standards, and provide decision makers with robust resource accounts to help the human economy operate within the Earth's ecological limits.
This is an exciting opportunity to advance the science underlying the Ecological Footprint as manager of Global Footprint Network’s National Accounts program. The Ecological Footprint is taking off. Climate change is on everyone’s mind. The manager of the National Accounts Program serves as the environmental scientist with central responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the national Ecological Footprint database at Global Footprint Network. You will get to collaborate with leading international organizations. You will be responsible for meeting with Footprint accounting researchers, partner organizations, prospective companies and government agencies. You will draft proposals and presentations, speak about the methodology, write and submit papers, and consistently work with scientists and Global Footprint Network partner organizations to improve the integrity and methodology of the National Footprint Accounts.
Candidates must be able to speak clearly, think creatively, use Excel expertly & write professional reports. Experience in carbon accounting, supply chain management, MIPS, Ecological Footprint analysis, green building analysis, life cycle analysis, and/or other related ecological indicators and methods are desired. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned expert in delivering tools and database intensive projects related to resource accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years work experience in managing ecological modeling projects
- Experience in environmental consulting, research and/or project management
- Expertise in Excel, possibly Visual Basic & database software
- Experience in data analysis, supply chain management, MIPS, green building analysis, Ecological Footprint analysis and other related ecological indicators and methods
- Expertise leading teams and mentoring and developing staff in management or an entrepreneurial arena
- Advanced degree in a science based area
- Background in Environmental Science or Environmental Consulting
- Interest in global resource issues
- Willingness to travel
- Excellent writing, presentation skills
- Ability to perform to budgetary expectations
- Facilitation of groups a plus
RESPONSIBILITES
The Manager of the National Accounts Program serves as the primary technical reference for staff and external stakeholders on the theory and methodology of national and sub-national Ecological Footprint accounting. The manager engages with National Accounts Footprint committee, soliciting input on methodology, fostering consensus on standards. The manager directly supervises the development of the National Footprint Accounts, trains and supervises junior staff in Ecological Footprint methodology, and works directly on technical matters with governments, consultancies, and academic institutions.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manages National Accounts Program , a division of Global Footprint Network. With other Managers , sets yearly program budget and objectives , and coordinates staff and funds to achieve program goals.
- Directs process of scientific development of National Footprint Accounts by coordinating, reviewing, and integrating new scientific research.
- Leads project development and fundraising efforts for international and national projects and research. Generates proposals and negotiates contracts.
- Publicly represents Global Footprint Network at key technical events hosted by inter-governmental and governmental expert groups. Events will involve extensive international travel.
- Serves as Global Footprint Network’s voting representative on National Accounts Review Committee. Provides technical background and recommendations to committee.
- Directly supervises research and project work of junior staff and interns.
- Manages national-level research and strategic projects involving staff, partners, key external government stakeholders, and academic researchers.
- Serves as technical advisor on national and sub-national billable projects.
- Eventually trains new staff, existing staff, interns, government representatives, and researchers on Ecological Footprint accounting methodology, both national and sub-national.
