Job Scope and Responsibilities:

Greenpeace’s global warming lobbyist will be driven, articulate, and strategic. While there are growing opportunities to address global warming in the Congress, Greenpeace’s legislative strategy must be prepared not only to push for the strongest science based solutions, but also to defend against steps that are insufficient. The lobbyist will join Greenpeace’s global warming team in helping to develop and implement its legislative strategy.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist development and implementation of Greenpeace’s lobbying strategy
  • Develop and maintain contacts with Members of Congress and their staff.
  • Track Greenpeace’s short list of key Congressional targets
  • Assist with writing and editing news releases, op eds, letters to the editor, other media materials generated by the DC legislative team.
  • Work with Greenpeace’s global warming field team to ensure consistency of message on legislative issues.
  • Assist in quickly interpreting new legislative proposals and legislative actions into digestible and easily understood bullet points for field and media use.
  • Track global warming legislation in the House and Senate and provide update to staff, allies, etc
  • Actively work with other environmental groups to build an effective "left flank"

Skills and accomplishments:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience in media relations
  • 3 to 5 years direct lobbying experience
  • Strong communication skills including public speaking, written and oral
  • Critical and strategic thinking
  • Able to keep a level head in a fast-paced campaign environment
