WHO WE ARE:
Held every three years on a different continent, Women's Worlds
Congresses seek to connect academics, activists, and policy makers in
their quest for gender research and interdisciplinary scholarship,
and women-centered advocacy. In July 2011, the 11th Women's Worlds
Congress will be held at Carleton University and hosted jointly by
Carleton, the University of Ottawa and l'Université du Québec en
Outaouais. The theme of the 2011 Congress is "Living in a Globalized
World: Inclusions, Exclusions, and Seclusions"
The WW2011 is a non-profit NGO (presently going through incorporation
process),seeking a committed, skilled individual to build and lead a
staff team in Ottawa to implement the local host responsibilities
associated with the organization of this international event. This
position reports to the WW2011 Board of Directors and to the Steering
Committee.

Part-time contract. $44,000 - $55,000 (based on experience)
calculated based on 630 hours or 3 days per week from July 2008-July
2009, with possibility of extension to full-time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director is responsible for providing leadership in managing and
carrying out the activities of the organization of the 2011 Women's
Worlds Congress.
Support the Steering Committee in:
-- Creating a local environment conducive to supporting the
success of the conference;
-- The execution of their responsibilities, and other committees
as required;
-- Implementing the strategic direction and policies set by the
Board and Steering Committee;
-- Leading a resource development strategy including proposal
writing, follow-up and reporting;
-- Establishing the WW2011 Secretariat, including human resource
plan, hiring of staff team, set up of office, and work plans.
-- Managing the budget(s) and ensuring regular reports to the
Board and to the Steering Committee.
-- Regularly prepare narrative reports for the Board on
programming and fundraising activities.
-- Providing direction and input into the fundraising strategies;
-- Interviewing and hiring a professional fundraiser and supervise
his/her work;
-- Managing the staff of the organization, consultants and
contracts according to current local law/legislation;
-- Facilitating linkages between the various committees and
advisors;
-- Ensuring that regular, thorough and accurate reports are
prepared according to the requirements of funding agencies and other
partners;
-- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with
conference stakeholders, funding agencies and partner organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-- Experience in conference program coordination/planning.
-- Good understanding of women's issues locally and
internationally.
-- Management experience preferably in a non-profit organization
including human resources, program and budget management and resource
development.
-- Demonstrated organization, problem-solving, diplomatic,
negotiation, interpersonal and team skills.
-- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with multi-sector
stakeholders and with diverse communities.
-- Effective communication skills in English and French.
-- Computer skills in various software applications.
-- Located in the Ottawa area and able to legally work in Canada.
