POSITION SUMMARY:
The Programme Specialist post is located in the Regional Office (RO)
of UNFPA in Cairo, and is under the overall supervision of the
Regional Director and reports directly to the Deputy Regional
Director. S/He is part of an inter-disciplinary team, which provides
integrated programme and technical support within a systems
strengthening approach fundamental to UNFPA's overall strategy.
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
A. Support to Policy and Programme Development and Implementation -
Ensures reflection and complementarity of UNFPA corporate and
regional strategies as well as national development plans in Country
programmes and annual work plans;
B. Capacity development - Ensures an open exchange of state-of-the-
art programmatic innovations in partnership with assigned CO
Programme/Technical Specialists;
C. Knowledge Management - Ensures an open exchange of best
practices/lessons learned between HQ, COs in partnership with CO
Programme/Technical Specialists;
D. Programme Management Support.
REQUIREMENTS:
-- Post-graduate University Degree or equivalent in social
anthropology, law and women's rights, sociology, gender, cultural
studies, public health, demography, economics, or other field
directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of
the post.
-- 7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in
management and development relevant to population and development,
sexual and reproductive health, and gender, of which three at the
international level;
-- Substantive knowledge and practical experience in population
and development, sexual and reproductive health, and gender;
-- Experience in programme and/or technical assistance with the UN
System;
-- Experience in building partnerships;
-- Strong communications and writing skills in English and in
Arabic;
-- Field experience is required.
-- Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Working knowledge
of French is desirable.
