About
The Arusha Project’s permaculture program started in 2007 with the goal of providing short and long term nutritional support for our HIV/AIDS partner organizations. The aim is to provide a dietary balance and sustainable economic opportunity.
Program dates:
Winter 2008

Programs typically last 3 weeks but can be extended
- Work location is in Arusha, Tanzania
Responsibilities:
- The permaculture intern will work directly with the Country Coordinator.
- Development of a small scale, large quantity yield sustainable faming techniques to be reproduced specifically for the ecosystem of Arusha.
- Development of training program to teach the above mentioned techniques. The program should include:
o Group workshops (with detailed training manuals)
o Individual, hands on consultation at clients home/gardens
- Maintaining a mini farm in the Arusha area for teaching purposes and year round food production
- Locating already established training programs in the East Africa region (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda).
o Identifying which programs would be beneficial to send representatives from our partner organizations for training
o Identifying these individuals, along with funding sources to sponsor their training
o With the aid of these individuals and their newly acquired training modify the Arusha Projects training program
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the Arusha Projects overall organizational goals of promoting gender equality and Sexual Health.
- Experience and knowledge of the non-profit and volunteer sectors
- Ability to work independently as well as under the guidance of the program officers
- Knowledge of permaculture techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct business professionally and patiently with limited resources.
Internship Program Fee includes:
- Shared accommodations in group living situation
- Meals (breakfast lunch and dinner)
- Matron services
- Orientation to program
- Swahili language instruction
- Airport pick up and drop off
- Local transportation
- Social/Cultural excursions
- Medical and Evacuation insurance
- Visa fees
Not included:
- Round trip airfare between Arusha and the US
- Personnel expenses (telephone, gifts, etc.)
Program details:
- 3-12 weeks duration
- US citizenship is not required
- The Arusha Project is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization
- Academic/Internship credit may be applied for through home university
