POSITION TITLE: FLORIDA CAMPUS ORGANIZER
LOCATION: FLORIDA (South East or North Central FL preferred, but flexible)
TERM: starting as soon as possible through at least August 1, 2008 (With strong possibility of extension, pending funding)
DEADLINE: soft deadline: January 18, and then rolling deadline until filled
The Southern Energy Network is looking for a dynamic organizer to take on the role of student organizing around global warming and energy issues. With large portions of Florida expected to be underwater due to the effects of global warming, we need someone who is dedicated to pursuing campus victories and leveraging those victories toward broad spectrum policies NOW. The fun-filled exciting and fast-paced position offers countless opportunities for skill building and development and is highly personally rewarding.
ABOUT SOUTHERN ENERGY NETWORK AND THE CHALLENGE
The Southern Energy Network (SEN) is a project of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and our work is focused on supporting campus climate organizing in the Southeast and leveraging our campus victories to achieve better local and state policies. SEN is a founding member of the Energy Action Coalition, which is a project of over 40 environmental and social justice organizations in the U.S. and Canada working to unify the growing student and youth movement for a clean, safe and just energy future. The Challenge aims to engage one million youth on over 700 college campuses to make their campuses models of sustainability and to influence local, state and national climate policy.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Florida Campus Organizer is responsible for managing the Challenge campaign in Florida by supporting student clean energy and global warming initiatives, Florida student networking, and connecting students to communities engaged in fighting new dirty power plants. This job involves substantial travel, mostly within Florida, to visit campuses and attend summits and events. The position also supports Southeast regional coordination and initiatives.
