The Lead Web Application Developer will work with the AASHE's IT Team as the lead programmer for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) online tool.

 

Duties include:

  • Lead the development of a web application that helps universities share information and measure their progress toward meeting sustainability goals
  • Identify programming paradigms and design patterns most suitable for STARS’ application needs
  • Develop creative solutions to complex programming problems
  • Develop/implement, test, optimize and document software components in a web-based environment, including interfaces for legacy and new systems
  • Work with the IT Team to create and adhere to a development schedule for the staff and Board.
  • Provide guidance to the rest of the IT staff on current web programming trends and best practices

 

Profile

We are looking for candidates who have experience developing web applications in a LAMP environment.  Candidates should enjoy coding and problem solving. Good communication skills are essential.

Teamwork will be important, but candidates should also be self-motivated: capable of setting and meeting deadlines and deliverables without a great deal of supervision. Multi-tasking and an ability to work well under short-term pressure are a must.

Candidates should have excellent communications skills, written and oral.

Candidates should have good organization and preparation skills.   

Candidates should be prepared to work remotely from a home office, unless they are located in Lexington, KY. Travel to in-person meetings will be provided as needed.

Qualifications 

At minimum a BA degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Sciences or similar curriculum with software development emphasis.  Some combination of the following is preferred.  Proficiency in LAMP environment is highly desired.

  • Strong experience with object-oriented programming
  • Proficiency in PHP5 and MySQL
  • Proficiency in Zend Framework or other PHP MVC frameworks
  • Experience developing large-scale, database-driven Web applications
  • Experience with database optimization
  • Experience with SOAP/XML Web Services
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript/AJAX
  • Familiarity with Web standards and cross-browser issues
  • Experience using version control system
