EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

Seeking an entrepreneurial leader, skilled in fundraising, who has a track record

of building organizations by turning ideas and passion into results.

 


ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

 

Hope to Action (www.hopetoaction.org) is a one-year old 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is leveraging the power of women-centered social networks to build a national movement of women for climate protection.  Our work is centered around three initiatives:

EcoSalon encourages and engages women to take collective action for climate protection. EcoSalon house parties offer women a fun and easy way to learn about this concern and how we can all be part of the solution. Practical resources and incentives are offered to encourage the spread of the program.

 


EcoAction Schools in partnership with educators nationwide, showcases model environmental education programs and sustainability practices for K-8 schools. Our integrative curriculum and institutional best practices are designed for adoption by educators, school administrators, students and parents.

 


Influence America represents the unified voice of women for climate protection, providing thoughtful climate policy recommendations and an effective vehicle for women to weigh in on relevant state and federal legislation. Resources for taking community civic action are also provided. 

 

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

We are seeking an experienced manager to partner with a social entrepreneur to build something very special…working over the next three years to realize the founder’s vision of engaging one million women in direct action for climate protection, as measured by tracking the participation in Hope to Action’s programs and usage of online tools.

 

Over the past year, Hope to Action has invested in developing a robust web-based infrastructure enhanced with a suite of online mobilization and advocacy tools and educational resources.  Now it is time to build out the organizational capacity that can support a million-woman strong movement.  This will entail:

 

Organizational Development


  • Raising an FY09 budget of $400,000+ from foundation grants and major donors;
  • Guiding strategic planning and establishing a roadmap for achieving Hope to Action’s bold vision;
  • Developing processes and systems for retaining organizational knowledge;

 

Operations Management


  • Adopting a continuous improvement approach to program effectiveness, website functionality and content, and the user-friendliness of online tools;
  • Monitoring Key Performance Indicators and evaluating against benchmarked metrics to ensure steady progress towards major milestones;
  • Building and motivating a small team of talented staff to support the organization’s operations;
  • Developing and managing a budget through fiscal discipline and frugal creativity for leveraging non-cash resources;

 

Coalition Building and Evangelism


  • Building partnerships with women affinity and environmental organizations to form a national advocacy coalition;
  • Serving as spokesperson and evangelist in public forums and to the media.

 


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Organizational Development


  • Proven record of success fundraising $100,000+ budgets from foundations and major donors;
  • Skilled networker willing and able to leverage own professional network for new strategic partnership opportunities, board development, and foundation and major donor prospects;

 

Nonprofit Management


  • Five years or more experience in a nonprofit management or director role;
  • Experience hiring, supervising and developing staffs of five or more employees;
  • Willingness to roll up the sleeves and get work done in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment;
  • Equivalent experience from the business or government sectors will also be considered;

 

Coalition Building and Evangelism


  • History of success organizing large-scale grassroots advocacy campaigns or coalitions is a plus;
  • Skilled communicator in face-to-face meetings, public speaking, media relations, grant-writing, and writing blogs, white papers or other persuasive documents;
  • Some experience working with and engaging women in the creation of social change is a plus;
  • Passion for Hope to Action’s mission of engaging women across America to solve global warming is a must;

 

Internet and Technology Savvy


  • Experience leading web-based activities and programs, including an understanding of how people interact with the web to find information and network;
  • Experience with online mobilization, advocacy and fundraising tools common to the non-profit sector (such as Democracy in Action, Convio or Drupal) is a plus;

 

Education


  • Bachelors degree.  Advanced degree in management or business administration, law, public policy, environmental science or other relevant disciplines is a plus.



RELATIONSHIP WITH FOUNDER:

 

The founder will continue to play an active role in the leadership of the organization as President and Chairwoman of the Board.  The Executive Director will have broad authority over the day-to-day operations of the organization.  In the areas of strategic planning, budgeting, hiring, donor and partnership cultivation, and public evangelism, the executive director and founder will work collaboratively.

 


SALARY AND BENEFITS:

 

Salary range is from $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience.  Benefits include vacation, sick leave and medical insurance.  This is a full-time position and will be based in San Francisco, California.
