Hollywood Farmers’ Market - Assistant Manager

 

Full time position. Salary $34,000-$38,000.

Work on Sunday is required, from 6:30AM to 3:30PM.

 

Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA), operator of the popular Sunday open-air Hollywood Farmers' Market (HFM), is seeking a dynamic individual to work as part of a collaborative team, primarily responsible for managing the operation and administration of the HFM as well as assisting in the general administrative duties and Market related community activities and programs.

 

The Assistant Manager coordinates with farmers, vendors, community organizations and volunteers for the operation and promotion of the Market as well as develops and implements Market activities and programs.

 

Further responsibilities are to assist with other SEE-LA programs and the new Farmers Kitchen Project.

 

The Assistant Manager is responsible to and supervised by SEE-LA’s CEO/Market Manager.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

+  An interest in Certified Farmers' Markets, agriculture, nutrition, food assistance programs, community outreach and program development; experience is a plus

+ Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups of people

+ Ability to communicate effectively in English in person, by telephone and in writing with farmers, vendors, customers, government agencies, regulators and inspectors, market partners and the public; some Spanish competency is a plus

+ An ability to maintain records, prepare reports & handle cash and receipts; experience is a plus

+ Ability to work with computer programs, Microsoft experience preferred.  QuickBooks experience a plus.

+ A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work or life experience

 

Major Duties: Under general supervision and direction of Market Manager/CEO, responsible for the management and administration of the market.

 

HFM Market Site – Sundays, 6:30am to 3:30pm

+ Responsible for overseeing the physical set-up and take-down of market

+ Responsible for managing and directing farmers/vendors including assigning vendor spaces, enforcing market rules and other pertinent laws and regulations

+ Ensure that the market site is well-maintained

+ Able to handle emergencies, complaints, and farmers/vendor and customer requests

+ Collect cash, credits, fees and load lists

+ May require lifting, carrying or handling of heavy objects (40 pounds)

+ Responsible for maintaining an effective customer assistance information center, assuring good public relations and encouraging an effective volunteer service

+ Manage market events and other tasks as needed

 

SEE-LA Office – Weekdays (9am-5:30pm)

+ Assist in contacting, cultivating and enlisting farmers/vendors for the market

+ Prepare weekly market reports and accounting

+ Ensure advance preparation and planning of ensuing market(s)

+ Maintain vendor's files and accounts and other administrative tasks as needed

+ Develop and implement monthly events to be held at the market

+ Develop monthly calendar and outreach materials to promote the market

+ Attend neighborhood council and other relevant meetings, trainings and events

+ Assist in implementation of SEE-LA programs and Farmer's Kitchen Project

+ Develop, initiate and implement new and revised SEE-LA programs, as assigned

+ Assist in the operation and management of various SEE-LA programs, as assigned

+ Assist in the development, operation and management of the Farmer's Kitchen project

+ All other duties as assigned
