About
East End Heritage Tours
Over the next few years Tower Hamlets will be in the public eye, with the forthcoming 2012 Olympics with the associated regeneration and legacy work and the proposed Thames Gateway development. A working party drawn from active members of the Anglican community in Tower Hamlets has been considering how to develop a social enterprise utilising the physical assets of the church together with the history and current diversity of the sector.
The concept is based around establishing heritage tours – perhaps offering short (2-3 day) package tours around the East End focusing on family history, with visits to churches and cemeteries (and Jewish sites) to absorb the heritage and history and to access archives and records.
We are looking for a person to take this project forward, probably working two days a week initially, researching the market opportunities and competition, establishing links with possible commercial partners and raising sufficient funds to launch the product. Initially unpaid, it is anticipated that some of the monies raised – through investment or grant funding – could be used to pay a salary.
Understanding of business planning is necessary and of the travel/tourism industry an advantage. The post is likely to appeal to someone with an interest in heritage, cultural diversity and/or church history.
