The Organization:

The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is an international feminist organization working to strengthen the voice, impact and influence of women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements internationally. AWID has offices in Mexico City, Toronto, and Cape Town and a full and part-time global staff of over 40.

Scope of the Position:

AWID is seeking a highly motivated self-starter with an excellent understanding of the latest information and communication technologies and strong web content management skills to undertake a full time position as Women’s Rights Information Program Coordinator. Location is flexible.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily sourcing of online content relevant to women’s human rights, gender equality and sustainable development from a wide range of websites for posting to http://www.awid.org
  • Content management of http://www.awid.org
  • Coordination of the production of thematic content for http://www.awid.org
  • Production of monthly online newsletter.
  • Development of an online constituency of members and users through the implementation of social networking tools on http://www.awid.org
  • Development of information sharing partnerships with relevant women’s rights and other social justice information providers.
  • Provision of information support to all AWID strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • University degree, college diploma or equivalent experience with a focus on women’s rights, gender equality and sustainable development.
  • At least 1-2 years experience in a communications or information related role.
  • At least 1 year’s experience of using Content Management Systems
  • Excellent knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies and how they can be used to advance women’s rights
  • In-depth understanding of the relevance of communication and information rights to the promotion of women’s rights and gender equality worldwide.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and either French or Spanish.
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in teams with tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Commitment to the principles and values of feminism and anti-oppression

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of eZ publish enterprise CMS.
  • Good sense of web design and layout
  • Basic knowledge of audio and video editing software.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English, French and Spanish
