JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Associate position provides direct administrative and
substantive support to the Program Officer (PO) of the region. The
Program Associate for Sub-Saharan Africa reports to and is guided by
the Program Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Essential job functions include: grant-making,
outreach/communications, and others.
The projected start date for this position will be early June, 2008.
The Program Associate is a full-time, exempt position with a starting
salary of $37,000, plus excellent benefits.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-- Good working knowledge of Sub-Saharan Africa via previous work,
study, or lived experience;
-- Some familiarity with women's rights in the region;
-- Fluency in oral and written English and French;
-- Strong skills in a Macintosh and/or PC environment, and in
using MS Office and database programs;
-- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and able to
multi-task;
-- Strong oral and written communication skills;
-- Demonstrated sensitivity and appreciation for diverse
viewpoints and different communication styles in a politically and
culturally diverse environment.
-- Good working knowledge of geography.
-- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
-- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop solid
working relationships.
-- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-- Critical thinking skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-- Bachelor's degree.
-- Minimum one year work experience.
-- General non-profit exposure.
-- Experience in working in a diverse, team-oriented, and fast-
paced environment.
