Position Title: Crewmember - Energy Crew

Position Type:  Full-time, temporary

Location:  Work in Colorado Springs and El Paso County 

Salary:  $8.50/hr includes uniform shirts, environmental education and training, mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle on job.

Benefits:  $1250 AmeriCorps Education Award to qualifying individuals.

Season Dates:  13 weeks from early Sept. through mid-Nov.


Colorado Legends and Legacies Youth Corps' Philosophy: The Colorado Legends and Legacies Youth Corps (CLLYC) provides young men and women a youth corps experience. Crewmembers serve in a team-oriented, labor-intensive work environment and develop both personally and professionally. The CLLYC program is designed to offer transferable employment skills and exposure to natural resources and parks and recreation careers. Corpsmembers also have the opportunity to enhance their leadership, group working, and life skills as well as learn to become stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

Program Overview: Crew will perform assessments of energy use and install energy saving devices such as programmable thermostats, low-flow showerheads, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and CO/Smoke detectors in LEAP (low-income energy assistance program) eligible homes in Colorado Springs and El Paso County. Crewmembers will also educate the home occupants on ways to save energy and teach them how to adjust and monitor temperatures on major home appliances.

Corpsmember Qualifications:

  • Must be between the ages of 18-24 and eligible for employment in the United States
  • Must make a STRONG commitment to complete the program and participate fully.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and be comfortable talking with people of all ages and socio-economic situations.
  • Must be detail-oriented and adept at basic math skills.
  • Must be willing to uphold the images of both CLLYC and the AmeriCorps Program.
  • Must be willing to work hard and be dedicated to the CLLYC philosophy.
  • Must adhere to the CLLYC policy which prohibits the use of tobacco (any form), alcohol and illegal drugs while serving as an employee.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Use of personal vehicle may be required. If so, we reimburse for mileage. And proper vehicle registration and insurance is mandatory.
