The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of 
the University of Miami invites applications for a Research Associate II 
position in coral reef ecology. The research is focused on coral reef 
benthic assessment and restoration and involves collaboration with 
scientists at the Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science 
(RSMAS) and the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fishery Science Center (SEFSC) 
as part of the Benthic Ecosystem Assessment and Research Unit.
Incumbent will be a full participant (with P.I and colleagues) in field 
research on coral reef protected resources, primarily in the Florida 
Keys National Marine Sanctuary but also including other Caribbean sites. 
Projects include monitoring/evaluation of coral reef benthic habitat, 
population assessment, and pilot studies of novel ecological restoration 
techniques. Extensive overnight travel (12-15 weeks per year) will be 
required. Activities include planning/logistics for field trips, 
leadership in diving and small boat operations and associated safety 
requirements, data entry and management, assisting PI in preparation of 
reports. Field work may involve exposure to uncomfortable environmental 
conditions (e.g. heat, cold, storms, etc.).

Applicants must have a Bachelors degree in marine biology, zoology, 
botany, environmental science or related fields, and at least two years 
of experience of field-based marine research. Applicants must have 
extensive scientific dive experience, prior AAUS certification is 
preferable; some experience operating small (25ft) outboard vessels 
(ideally USCG auxiliary safety certification and local knowledge of the 
upper Florida Keys); proficiency in general PC software, particularly 
Microsoft Excel, and basic knowledge of MS Access (extensive knowledge 
of MS Access and/or ArcGIS is preferred). Applicants must possess strong 
organizational skills, attention to detail and an interest and ability 
to learn new software. The incumbent must have excellent written and 
oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group 
of people in large collaborative projects. Position #036507. Salary:
