Areas of Focus

About

MJSB was organized in the spirit of Mountain Justice Summer, which is a coalition of coal-field groups, student groups, and environmental groups which has organized summer organizing projects and actions against the destructive practice of mountaintop removal mining.  Many of the same organizations from MJS worked together to create MJSB 2007 and brought over 100 young people from across the eastern U.S to West Virginia to witness mountaintop removal firsthand, speak with and learn from directly impacted community members, learn and share skills, and have a generally good time! The week culminated in a convergence on the Capitol Building in Charleston to demand justice for the students and staff at Marsh Fork Elementary, an I Love Mountains Day, and a Mountain Justice Concert benefiting local struggles.  For more see: www.climateaction.net/mjsb
The Southern Energy Network is a project of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and our work is focused on supporting campus climate organizing in the Southeast and leveraging our campus victories to achieve better local and state policies.  The Student Environmental Action Coalition is a youth run network of progressive organizations and individuals whose aim is to uproot oppression and environmental injustices and is working on the Campus Climate Challenge and Mountain Justice.

Mountain Justice Spring Break Internship

The MJSB Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the collaborative work of volunteers and staff for MJSB and helping us build off of successes and challenges from last year’s event to improve this year’s MJSB. This will involve attending MJSB conference calls every 1-2 weeks, following up on commitments, recruiting new volunteers to help out, and supporting all committees (such as recruitment/outreach, agenda/speakers, food, housing/location, etc.) and making sure that they are on track.
