About
We are looking for one additional individual to live on our farm, and help caretake in exchange for rent. We are seeking an individual who would like to make an initial 4-6 month commitment to the farm along with the possibility of living here long-term.
The Place
Edge Land is located on 24 beautiful acres along the Atascadero and Green Valley Creeks. Twenty-two acres are dedicated to a wildlife preserve, and two acres are landscaped/cultivated. Edge Land is located 1 mile from Graton, 4.5 miles from downtown Sebastopol, and 15 miles from the Sonoma Coast. In the past few seasons we have cultivated fruit trees, berries, rare breed sheep, chickens, a rose garden and an educational herb garden. There is also a large 150-year-old redwood dairy barn– now a classroom/woodshop, a massage/dance/yoga/meeting room, a sauna house and lots of breathtaking trees, walking trails and wildlife.
The Animals
A small flock of rare breed sheep
2 chickens
2 very energetic dogs
1 cat
Who we are
The owner of Edge Land Farm is a 39-year-old man with an interest in social sculpture, herbal medicine and learning to live a harmonious, responsible and reciprocal relationship with the plants, animals and people of Edge Land.
Current caretaker is a 23-year-old woman with interests in organic farming, building
community, and living a sustainable lifestyle. Third land partner will be sharing facilities and responsibilities with the current caretaker.
The Exchange
In exchange for rent, the caretaker will help out on the farm 15 hours a week. She/he will be responsible for caring for the animals, gardens and buildings. This is approximately 2 hours of chores/work each day- some days more, some days less. Chores include feeding the farm and house animals, cleaning-up after animals, exercising dogs, watering/weeding gardens, landscaping, and cleaning and maintaining buildings. Each day the farm animals need to be brought in before dark.
The caretaker will have his/her own living accommodations either in a small cottage or in a room in the guesthouse.
There is the additional possibility that the arrangement could be long-term if we all found it to be a good fit.
The Caretaker
We are looking for a person who is seeking a peaceful place to live, and would also enjoy spending time working with the animals and plants at the farm. This is an ideal situation for an artist/writer/academic or mature student. We are looking for someone extraordinarily responsible, emotionally stable, energetic, quiet, and kind, and who has some experience caring for animals. She/he must be able to live completely fragrance-free, including no smoking, essential oils or incense.
To Apply
Email a letter of interest describing yourself in detail, your interest in caretaking Edge Land, any applicable past work/living experience, and the date you are available to begin. Please also include any concerns and/or questions you may have. If it seems like it could be a good match, we’ll contact you.
