INTRODUCTION:
CWGL, based at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, USA is
accepting applications for Project Coordinator.
PURPOSE:Coordinates and/or assists with the Center's programming
and policy issue work pertaining to violence against women,
including the 16 Days of Activism Campaign Against Gender Violence
(international in scope).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* COORDINATE THE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM CAMPAIGN
-- Draft, finalize and disseminate one-page theme announcement
-- Update, revise, design and create additional resources and all
other promotional materials (fliers, stickers, etc.) for 16 Days as
part of the annual Take Action Kit; mailing to groups and individuals
-- Conduct outreach to both domestic and international
organizations
-- Monitor 16 Days listserve with a membership of almost 600
individuals and organizations worldwide
-- Respond to all 16 Days-related inquiries and maintain contact
with participants
-- Manage and maintain 16 Days archives, and contact databases
-- Plan and carry out local 16 Days events.
* PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS RELATED TO VIOLENCE AGAINST
WOMEN
Thematic partnerships with VAW work, such as HIV/AIDS, including as
member of Global Coalition on Women and AIDS in partnership with the
World Health Organization as part of subgroup on violence against
women.
-- Strategize on how to use the 16 Days Campaign to strengthen
work around VAW and HIV/AIDS
-- Conduct correspondence
-- Produce reports on intersections, draft proposals
-- Attend and plan meetings and events, etc.
* UN MONITORING AND ADVOCACY WITH A FOCUS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
* PROVIDE GENERAL PROGRAMMATIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT.
REQUIRED:
-- A bachelor's degree in the social sciences or humanities.
-- Excellent English language written and verbal communication
skills
-- At least 2 years experience in non-profit, or
non-governmental organizations, or in grassroots organizing and
campaigning. At least one year of experience should be within a
women's organization or involve issue areas specific to women.
DESIRABLE:
-- Experience with the issue of gender based violence on the
policy level.
-- Experience in non-US settings; fluency in a language in
addition to English (French or Spanish, especially)
-- Computer literacy, with knowledge of database management and
document design programs.
-- Ability to travel locally and regionally; some international
travel may be possible.
