About

This group is to explore and publicize the methods of Zero Waste as a design theory, one that obsoletes theories dependent on finding homes for discarded commodities.

In simpler terms, Zero Waste makes the methods of recycling obsolete. Zero Waste goes beyond finding a few "cute" uses for unwanted products. Zero Waste asks how commodities can be redesigned so that perpetual reuse is built right into the product itself, for all products, so that recycling and struggles for reuse become unnecessary and irrelevant.

Zero Waste can best be understood at this website: www.zerowasteinstitute.org.  Take special note of the  basic principles presented and of the zero waste projects used to illustrate those principles.

Please feel free to comment on the applications of zero waste, to suggest designs which could lead to perpetual reuse and to find areas where zero waste thinking could be productive.
