About
"I conserve" is the simplest way for people to express their personal commitment to reducing their environmental footprint, be it through energy conservation, driving less, eating local, buying green products, or investing ethically.
"We Conserve" is a simple way for all of us working towards the common goal of a sustainable conserver society to help people become better conservers.
"We Conserve" is a common statement of commitment from groups, stores and restaurants, businesses, and governments. It is a commitment to reduce our ecological footprint in our operations, to provide products and services that help others conserverm, and to support conservation in our communities.
"We Conserve" is being actively developed in Ontario, Canada, by the Conservation Council of Ontario. As a social marketing tool, much of it can be easily replicated in any jursidiction. Building the social infrastructure and a conservation movement is a more complex task, and the Conservation Council can offer advice and support.
Paul Hawken got it right about the scope of this new movement. In Ontario alone we estimate there are at least 18,000 groups that are actively engaged in community environmental projects. We also estimate that the green economy in Ontario is at least 5% -- small, but strong enough to have maintained a presence since around 1990. Our challenge is to support and nurture this activety -- to be a catalyst for the change that is already happening around us
