Possible Worlds platform
Take a look at how this project came into being: Global Project and now
Background & Current Strategy
"Possible Worlds" was recognized as a good name and idea by participants at the 2009 Social Forum which took place in Brazil.
- The current proposal is based on 3 modules:
- A knowledge database of reproductible "solutions" It should be the place where experts and "knowledgable people" can elaborate their ideas / projects / solutions
- An Administrators tool to manage groups and the people accessing this database
- A user friendly web site / platform where the anyone can access the "solutions" database.
To Date
A home website/home page for the Possible Worlds site has been created (transformed from the previously named SWOORD – (‘saving world from real disaster’ website).
It can now be visited at: http://www.possible-worlds.org (note a few changes are still being made to fully integrate the Possible Worlds branding and there are still bugs)
- As you can see below the big database containing the Solutions and the Administrative end (Possible Worlds Group) are located in the WiserEarth platform. The user access is on the "End users Space"
We will have a different Working Group per module. Please let Michel Meyer know if you are interested in joining any of these working groups:
Working Group 1: Knowledge Database
How to build the database of good initiatives
(ideas>Projects>Realisation/Solutions) to enable other members of
WiserEarth to discover and improve it.
Multiple sub topics: Perhaps Angus (creator of Solutions module
on WiserEarth) could help drive some of these points.
• What name could we use for this space?
• Do we agree to work only in English? Some good will and good expertise could be done by human not English speaker. Should we use automatic translations or do we use a language filter?
• How should we structure the Solutions form so that it’s easy to populate and update?
• How should we organize the site so it’s easy for people to find what they are looking for (search engine, keyword, taxonomy, trees, etc..)
• What methodology should we use to make the Solution Laboratory work well? Is it “just a form” or should we open (for some project) a wiki for each solution?
2 – Working Group 2 : Administrators tools
A team and group needs to act as the “Go between” the global solutions laboratory and the end user publishing system.
Discussions around creating a network similar to a press Agency desk:
• Define editorial rules (definition and governance of initiatives)
• How to be informed and validate the storage: Moderation, qualification, scoring and publishing news
• How to enable a rapid and targeted dissemination of good practices by country?
• How to search without polluting
• How to manage a multiple repositories culture?
• Interesting content for the country
• Scoring initiatives/solutions - local
• Using local language/translation
• Using Keyword/taxonomy by Country
• Find the best way to push and spread communication through one’s own country
• Best ideas and practice to be well referenced and well known
• Manage member and invite to participate to Forum or WE solutions
• Research and Dissemination: How to enable a rapid and targeted dissemination
3 – Working Group 3 : User friendly Web Site (Glo’C’al knowledge publishing system)
We need a simple system for access, dissemination and ownership of projects for public viewing. “GloCal” concept means that it’s a global and centralized system but a local publishing and presenting in their language and with their knowledge (which could be low) answers to their personal/local interests.
• For the past 5 years, a French Computer High School has developed the www.Swoord.net platform. Some adaptations are on going and few bugs need to be corrected but globally, tool is pretty robust.
• We are adapting it for Possible-worlds.Org use
– Modification of image/logos (currently)
– Preparation of new text and Translations for dynamic pages (currently)
– Review and Translations of projects/initiatives today in the French version (currently)
– In the back office, administrators can already start to prepare their country content.
– Decide to “publish a country” when content is ‘good enough’
• If you are interesting by creating your country site, let Michel M. know
– All discussions and explanations will be presented in the group inside WiserEarth.
– If you decide to become a country administrator, you will have access to administrative functions including:
• Setting up your country’s language preferences
• Ability to add translations
• Adapting taxonomy for you country as needed
• Ability to review the French content and start to populate your country page
• Share your new projects/initiatives with other countries (based on what WE Global solutions will gives to us or what you could know or find in your local review of good idea
Please let Michel Meyer know if you are interested in joining any of these working groups of if you have any questions.

| Hi, we are working on howtopedia.org, a library for practical knowledge on simple technologies. Maybe is there a synergy with your project? Maud Chatelet 5 months ago

| Hi Maud. thanks for the idea. we should spend timpe to review your site/data/process. Pierre is also proposing something not far away with multilanguage taxonomy/concept: Solecopedia. We should create a discussion for this item Michel Meyer 5 months ago
