Welcome this Autumn 2009 Season! NYC Metro Coalition, a network brought together by the Coalition for OneVoice (www.coalitionforonevoice.org) continues to add to its Intiatives and activities. Our TreeFriends initiative with events in March and April was a big success and has linked us to the City of New York "Million Trees" project and a number of other initiatives "on the ground" in NYC. As well, members of our coalition sponsored "Transition Training" in May as well as addition discussion (with our Partners in India) on emerging higher consciousness and activism. Now as we move into the fall "Tree Friends" is substantially funded and partnered with a number of other promising initiatives in the New York region. In our "About" section, at the end of the "Initiatives" entries is a longer, updated, commentary about Tree Friends.
Some History: Our World Shift to Peace Festival (see Events herein) on Sept. 20th last fall in New York City was a big success. Then, as we entered the spring and summer of 2009 we expanded our Steering Committee and looked toward a 2009 emphasis on "Greening"-- greening in general, greening New York City, and the green jobs challenge. Part of this is furthering our broad-based "TreeFriends" initiative to a more expansive Nature Awareness campaign with more and more fellow travellers in the New York City area, we want to call your further attention to new Initiatives in our "About" Section. This will continue to include more general environmental education activities (esp. involving the arts) and also the more knitty-gritty areas of technical environmental challenges in the New York City area, including the green jobs transition. We will also continue our partnership with the Auroville community in India in our discussion of Consciousness and Activism. Our February 15, 2009 program on this was a big success and was followed by another with guests from Sri Aurobindo Ashram on May 27th. Meantime, the Tree Friends preview of April 26th was very successful, linking us to many other environmental intitiatives in the NYC area.
We had also worked from the success of our International Day of Peace Weekend in September and our creation of a formal course in the NYC educational system concerning the vision of Wiser.Earth and its inspirer, Paul Hawken. See "About".
Meantime, our Group members continue to get enrolled and announce their parts of our ongoing cooperative work. Right now some of them are using WiserEarth as their virtual vehicle and others are not.
