Mid Mountains Community Gardens
This space has been set up for community garden members to share resources, documents and events with
each other while setting up the community garden. It has the advantage that we can connect with resources other community garden groups have shared in WiserEarth. To learn more about WiserEarth read the WiserEarth Principles.
All members of this group can add, edit resources, files, events as well as share comments and hold discussions about the process of developing the gardens. Got to the area below called Getting Started to find out more on how to use this space.

| The 8 May 2010 whole group meeting was held at Kihilla and had about 12 participants. It was decided to hold all meetings at Kihilla. If transport is an issue contact Louise Sutcliffe and members will be happy to help. The meeting resolved to proceed with the creation of a Management Committee consisting of 2 volunteers from each group. Louise has offered to collect and assist with our documents regarding MOU, OH&S, Membership etc. Our present task is to decide what are the functions and rules of the MC so that our MMCG can proceed. A lot of good work has been done by many and I see us planting in Spring. Maryanne Bell 3 months ago

| Saturday and Sunday - 28th and 30th May (9am - 12noon on both days)For the MMCG Gardens (bottom section) David Olsson, has also requested the following:- Any assistance with donations (or sources of donations) of large quantities (preferably organic) of animal manures, compost and shredded vegetation/mulch would be greatly appreciated. We also need newspaper and cardboard as well as landscaping timber (preferably not treated pine), in useable condition for building steps, retaining structures and garden bed surrounds. Info for the MMCG Garden at Kihilla - from David Olsson - for further info please either ring David on 0418250159 or Raoul on 4759-3694 or email David on davidolsson1@gmail.com On both weekends (15/16 May and 29/30 May) we will be continuing with the following activities resulting from the intensive design workshop:- * Continued work on garden access and pathways. This will involve clearing, levelling and building steps and retaining structures. * Continuing work on clearing sites for compost bays and water tank, and constructing compost bays. * Clearing of bamboo and other weed species from proposed gardening areas. For this work, the following tools will be useful - mattocks, hoes.spades, shovels, rakes, secateurs, loppers and hedge shears. Of course, suitable protective clothing and personal protection equipment is also necessary - particularly sturdy footwear, gloves and hat. In addition, a priority has been placed on construction and planting of new garden beds for planting of autumn and winter crops. Marking out, clearing (grass cutting) and further preparation (laying of newspaper/cardboard and black plastic to smother kikuyu) will commence on the gardening days of 15/16 May. It is intended that the next stage, construction and planting of these garden beds, will occur on the gardening days of 29/30 May depending on availability of resources and materials to proceed with this. We plan to build raised garden beds if resources are available and the quantity of resources will determine the height of the beds. We also hope to run a program of bush care and weed removal in the new garden areas at Kihilla concurrently with the other activities dependent on availability of a co-ordinator and interest from the gardeners. Please let us know if this is of interest to you. Info for the Kihilla Top Garden - for further info please contact Lizzie Connor on 4782-9380 Saturday May 15: Lizzie is co-ordinating work in the top garden that we share with Kihilla. Willing workers with gloves, strong wire brushes, large paint brushes and/or containers for paint where possible needed. We are going to be scraping flaky paint off as many panels of the dividing fence as possible, and then painting them a terracotta colour. Other people will be put to work mixing composted cow manure into our existing shared garden bed, and then sowing broad beans in it. We'll also put in some bamboo posts and twine support lines if we have enough time. Saturday May 29: Lizzie (4782 9380) co-ordinating work in the top garden that we share with Kihilla. Continuing work on painting the fence, sowing broad beans and putting in supports, and planting garlic, shallots, leeks etc. If we have enough time, we'll also start putting up the fence around the raised bed. We have color-bond fencing and timber posts, so all we need is some strong, semi-skilled work people to get it into position etc. Please ring Lizzie on 4782 9380, if you have any queries, or better still if you have any brilliant ideas for getting these jobs done efficiently and effectively.
