Welcome everyone!
| Here, everyone has a
voice, and everyone is safe. This group gathers to address a nearly universal problem, Human Overpopulation. This issue has been treated as "hands-off", since advocating any policy regarding population is politically dangerous, treated as "the third rail" of politics and advocacy, causing political "electrocution". However, it is a problem that touches and complicates practically every other problem, making them much more difficult or impossible to solve, therefore it must be addressed. One of the most important papers on the subject is by Garrett Hardin, "The Tragedy of the Commons" where he correctly states that human overpopulation is an issue of the Commons, and one that needs moral action among leaders. It is very worthy reading. Vision We envision a world where:

| Afghanistan has a ecological footprint of .123 - the smallest in the world. The United Arab Emirates has the largest footprint 11.868. Afghanistan could have a sustainable population of 191 million, present population 24 million. The United Arab Emirates sustainable population should be 252 thousands, but it's present day population is 3 million. The U.S.'s sustainable population is 31 million, so the U.S. should cut its population or reduce its foot print, simple as that. So one or the other - you pick. frankpatton 3:56 pm

| Frank, you say Afghanistan's sustainable population is 191 million and the USA sustainable population is 31 million? That doesn't make sense to me. Can you clarify? Eric F. Olson 4:55 pm

| I dont get it?! Just because an area or country has a small environmental footprint doesn't/shouldn't justify an increase in population. It is the same problem that we have with climate change, gloabl warming, if areas are looked at in isolation from each other, the whole picture is lost. The stance that only looks at bits of the problem and the planet in isolation is what has got us into this mess int he first place. The whole needs to be looked at to come up with an answer, well it would be a good place to start Celeste Salter 6:09 pm

| Don't think Frank was suggesting that Afghans should have many children... but I'd agree with Celeste that as important details are, they must not be viewed separately from the bigger picture. Have you guys heard of the Happy Planet Index (HPI) btw? The most interesting index I found so far incorporating eco-footprint. Wibowo Sulistio 12:53 am
