Greetings! Welcome to the Wiser Earth Art of Learning Centering Group
From October 12 - 21, 2008 the Berkana Exchange community hosted an incredible gathering of more than fifty people. We discovered the wonders of Kufunda Learning Village and learned about both the challenges and incredible opportunities available in the Zimbabwean context. We inquired into the deep purpose that would keep us engaged in this community over the next several years. We met in "ACTION GROUPS" around everything from composting toilets to sustainable business and alternative currency.
We celebrated the diversity of our cultures and our learning centers. We cooked and ate amazing food together. We talked about how to create lasting changes in the way that we conceive of waste. We sang and danced, laughed and cried.
We acknowledged what we've been through in the last five years. We marked the passage of an era and the beginning of another. We said that we would creatively devise a way of meeting again.
And then, enriched and inspired, we returned home . . .
This Wiser Earth group is one way we can continue conversation, stay connected and dream up new plans. How exciting! Keep your eyes peeled for artifacts, discussions photographs, and more from Kufunda and other Art of Learning Centering gatherings. Please share your own thoughts, experiences, learnings and photos! You have to become a member of Wiser Earth to contribute . . . but it's easy to do. Reach out to the people you connected with, continue a dialog, start something new. We look forward to being in virtual community with everyone again.

2008 Art of Learning Centering Purpose
Our purpose is to
consciously, deliberately and collectively create a field of shared
learning around the art of learning centering, which is the practice of
hosting local spaces where people gather to create the conditions for
communities to become healthy and resilient.
We
participate in this gathering because we believe that the experience
will improve our ability to do meaningful grassroots work in our
communities at home.
We come
together to strengthen, deepen and gain clarity about our collective
work as the Exchange community. This year, we believe that our
trans-local community is ready to evolve into a new form. We gather in
order to see our minimal, elegant next steps.
This
year's gathering at Kufunda in Zimbabwe also offers us the opportunity
to cultivate the art of learning centering in an environment where
structures and systems are in a state of collapse. Although this
process of disintegration is sometimes painful, it also opens many
possibilities for rebuilding in a new way.
