We are using this group to help to manage translations of WiserEarth into Chinese.

Interface Translation Work using Launchpad

We are starting to translate the WiserEarth site into Chinese using a software called Launchpad to help us carry out the interface translation work (navigation/menus/error messages etc).

How are we co-editing WikiPage translations into Chinese?

My suggestion is to do the translations on WikiPages as follows: (please feel free to add comments to the discussion board as you progress on how we can improve this):

1. Take a look at the different translations listed under the bulletin board 'Pages needing Translation'.

2. Put your name down next to the translation (click on the little pencil under this module) which you would like to do based on how much time you have (there are shorter and longer translations)

3. Add an estimated time/completion date based on your available time.

4. When you've worked on the translation, add in the new time left or when you've completed it, add completed

5. If there is anything you don't understand in English or aren't sure the quality of the translation, underline it and we'll review it later.

6. Once translations are complete, I suggest that each translation is reviewed by one other person

A Few Tips for Editing WikiPages

- You can do the translation directly on the WikiPage if you choose, but you may want to do it in Word (or using another software) and then import it to the WikiPage that you're working on (click on the 'W' sign on the WikiPage toolbar to copy your Word content into the Wiki)

- Click on Save every time you make changes (just in case your computer crashes)

- You will not be able to carry over any formating from Word into the WikiPage, so don't spend too much time on this

- If there is an image on any WikiPage, don't worry about translating it for the time being.
