The International Society of Ethnobiology (ISE) endeavors to
promote a harmonious existence between humankind and the Bios for the
benefit of future generations.
Ethnobiologists recognize that Indigenous Peoples, traditional
societies, and local communities are critical
to the conservation of biological, cultural and linguistic diversity.
The ISE is
committed to achieving a greater understanding of the complex
relationships, both past and
present, that exist within and between human societies and their
environments. The vision of the ISE is reflected in its
Code of Ethics, to which all Members are bound.
The ISE is governed by a constitution (ISE Constitution) and guided by the work of a voluntary Board of Directors made up of a President, President-elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and four Regional Representatives for Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe (2 year terms). Additionally, the Global Coalation Director and ISE Ethics Committee Chair are appointed by and are active members of the Board. The ISE has one staff person as Coordinator, located in our Vermont-based office, and hosts volunteer interns on an-hoc basis. All ISE Members are welcome to participate on various working committees, which are created as needed.
The ISE is a 501(c)3 scientific and educational association located in Vermont, USA and registered in Georgia, USA.
