Food Sovereignty

I have just begun this group as there was no group on Food Sovereignty specifically. It is a term that we in WorldFamily (news about this soon as we are applying for UK charitable status) and all our partners hold very dear as it is inclusive of all cultures from the ground level up.

The British government last week, for the first time, let it leak out through the major media news that food security is an issue we will face. Although the Transition movement and other activists have been trying to get 'resilience' on the agenda since Rob Hopkins began, the words Food Sovereignty have not really entered the consciousness of many people - most people know at least what 'Climate Change' refers to, and we feel it necessary to spread the word about this.

It will take me a while to fill out the resources I have for this group, which has a very broad perspective (please read the pdf file of the Nyeleni conference for a full exposition) including food, land, soil integrity, livelihoods, farmers, fisher-folk, artisans, women's and youth empowerment, employment and so on. Asd our founder Seinde says in his video "Food is of the very essence of any society..."

I will post a link to this video here as well as it is fundamental and very moving. Unfortunately it is 47 seconds too long for U-Tube, although if anyone has any bright ideas about editing or loading it some other way I am open to suggestions:
