I wanted to encourage you to contact Mike Carberry. He is sending out a press release soon and is planning on mentioning the rally. It is helpful to bill the events together in order to communicate some coordination of events but the exact nature/wording you may want to work out. If we get a presidential candidate to come speak I want that you and UIEC gets credit for putting on the event, not Mike and the sierra club.

I am going to start working on draft fliers, leaflets, press releases, facebook event, etc. I will share these materials to you for suggestions/approval.

I will contact Mike and ask him how is billing the event, and in a show of goodwill will also commit to billing his event in our press release (I've been mentioning the other event in all my scheduling anyway)

PS we already have facebook page under Step It Up Iowa

A member of UIEC is working on a facebook event and I provided the necessary information for that. The current facebook treats Step It Up as a person and is listed in Cedar Rapids. In other words, it's not what we need.

I turned in the paperwork for approval of funds for the P.A. system which comes with a microphone. And, I-Renew is including the rally in their mass email to students.

cool, if you want to do anything with the facebook thing then go ahead, I don't have a whole lot of experience with it, you can email me and I'll give you the password if you want to change what's on there now

the facebook event is done and we've got a lot of invitees, too.

I see that you also created an event. Sorry for the duplication.

Mandy (from IRENEW) turned in the materials Tuesday for a mass email for the forum and it mentions the rally to follow. If they process it in time it will go out to all students at the University.

I finished the leaflets and flyers. I will print those out today and post those around town/hand out the leaflets over the next couple days.

No worries on Facebook, I checked your event and its ten times better than what i put up

I'll send out press releases today and do follow up phone calls tomorrow. I've been holding out to try to see if we can get Kucinich confirmed, I'm not sure if it will happen. Kucinich agreed to attend but two days out still hasn't said where he'll be. Weird.

Awesome news on the fliers and email.

I got some stencils and the green finger ink pad from national yesterday. I'll take some 11 x 17 extra papers from work here and will get some stencils on them saying No New Coal and Green Jobs for All, then we can hand those out to people at the rally.

Doh!!!

I bought some green finger paint today for the green finger campaign. No problem, it was cheap.

I am working with the local campaigns to see if they want to set up tables. The Edwards campaign staff is super eager about this event.
Sm_avatar
Good thinking, I'll put in a message to the local Obama organizer to see if they want to table, which campaigns have you contacted?
Sm_avatar
I've contacted Obama, Hillary, Edwards, Richardson, Biden, and left a message with Dodd's campaign. I will contact Guiliani and McCain's local people tonight. I wouldn't lose my stomache if they had a table. It helps with the non-partisan argument, too.

We made some great signs today. I printed our fliers and got those up. I will be out tomorrow passing out leaflets.

Giuliani's campaign sounded like they will bring a table down. Turns out McCain doesn't have a field office in Iowa City -- thought he did.

Some of my fliers were tore down but I'm handing out a lot of leaflets today.

There is no story in the Daily Iowan about Saturday's events.
