Hello All Wayfarer doug sez: Although every day is Earth Day for many of us, as the calendar & public consciousness period of the NY area Earth Week winds up, with too many events to possibly get to, we see dramatic evidence of the quickening and as has been noted by many recently, the Mainstreaming of triple bottom line considerations in both the media, business realms and in the discourse in civil society. As our team within the US Partnership [Decade of Education 4 Sustainability] has been learning to convey, we want people to gradually experience as the new normal, the integration of our oneness with the ecosystem/biosphere that is natural to those whose path has gifted and acquainted us with the fruits of the knowledge of the Wisdom Tradition. Just as there is no 'away' as the in-the-know teachings about how humans have to know understand their relationship and attitude to the 'waste stream', we know from the deeper places our paths have taken us, that there is of course no such place as 'outside'. The other night at Satya Graha event at the Cathedral St. John someone i spoke to at the hot human pinball networking mosh pit gave me a copy of a classic and beautiful statement by Chief Seattle which i will assume many of you are familiar with.(Just FYI, i grew up in NJ/NY area but went to The Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington and lived there and in Seattle for 12 , coming of age as a young adult in the deep counter-culture, Holistic, Humanistic and transpersonal Mind-Body-Spirit explorers community which was an incredibly vital learning network in the great Pacific Northwest, where i lived from 1975-1988, before returning to the greater NY area.)

Continued: As a reminder, the context for Chief Seattle's comments was the offer from the President to 'buy the land' inhabited by the 1st People's in the NW. He begins by noting how strange the idea itself is since the native people have no mental category of 'owning' nature. He goes on to say: ...we are a part of the earth and it is a part of us...(the land and all creatures) belong to the same family. The point that occurred to me to share in this post is where this articulate elder ends up as he declares: Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? ...that what befalls the Earth befalls all sons of the Earth...Humankind belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood which unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. WHATEVER HE DOES TO THE WEB, HE DOES TO HIMSELF...What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted with talkng wires...
As we continue to 'labor in the vinyards' of our One Voice core mission and focus in particular now on joining the direction of the Environment and Youth/Education focus circles, i speak from my sense of hope in the joining together; want you to know of my energy for and commitment to the Work and the journey and i want simply to introduce the essence of what i believe is common to and underlies the work we've been doing nationally and globally in the US Partnership and Inspired Futures Youth campaign and that i celebrate uniting with 1 voice to do together and further: to grow a vast corps of sustainability literate, and systemic-change literate Youth Leaders to partner with as we guide society safely, compassionately and skillfully into the Sustainability era. After all, Shift Happens. In Alliance, wayfarer doug |

Thanks so much Doug for getting up the information from Inspired Futures! This is just a note to all those who are in the process of joining our Wiser Earth group, esp. the organzations that still need to post their profiles and add their initiatives to our "About" section. We'll be watching for that and those of us with Administrator functions will responds ASAP when people apply to membership. A recent meeting of our Group confirmed that it's best, for now, to keep our membership on an "Apply Basis". That will continue at least until all of our founding and new members, who are in touch with us personally and in real time in NYC, complete their enrollments, profiles and so on. Thanks to all again! kurt
