Hey, all:
Hey, Bedy: Which species of sea turtle is it? You are absolutely right, nesting can be very dramatic, and can bring up very strong passions. In some very real ways, they put all their eggs in one basket, especially those of the genus Lepidochelys, which exhibit a behavior called an "arribada" in which they ALL swim ashore at once in the night. It seems truly magical, seeing them come out of the water all at once. Kemp's Ridley sea turtle is the one on the coast of Texas and Mexico which has taken many years of recovery effort to date, but globally, commercial fishing (read "overfishing") continues to cause declines in most if not all marine turtle species. Projeto Tamar looks very worthy of support. I hope they are successful, and we can all help by reducing our ecological footprint, and eat locally or regionally caught or raised seafood, and.contact public servants in office to halt overfishing. I think there are 5 types of turtle that nest in Brazil - Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Giant, Loggerhead and Green turtles. http://www.projetotamar.org.br/ingles/ta_brasil.asp

Brazil has an active project conserving sea turtles called "projeto Tamar" http://wiserearth.org/organization/view/3b0b3c790ba59303e495edc190103648.
This month (September) starts the reproduction month of the sea turtles at the Brazilian coast. It's quite amazing to see the turtle to come to the beach to burry the eggs.
