So, what do you know about massage therapy, or what do you think you know? Feel free to talk, comment, ask a question about anything you've heard or read about massage therapy and its modalities. Modalities are different types of bodywork: Swedish massage, hydrotherapy, reflexology, shiatsu, sports massage, etc. If there's something you want to know about, I'll try and answer to the best of my abilities, and if possible I'll ask my instructors or I may refer you to the sites that list the new research that's being done on the importance of touch, how massage can help animals as well as people, and all that other good stuff. By the way, did you know that massage is one of the earliest healing practices of humankind? The art of massage is found in writings as early as 2000 B.C. References of reflexology can be found in texts, illustrations, and artifacts dating back as far as 2500 B.C. Early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians, Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health. And the Greeks and Romans incorporated massage as well as hydrotherapy into their society's way of life. Only recently, in the 19th and 20th centuries, have we begun to rediscover this vital information about our bodies and the amazing things that they, and we, can do.
