Please report any spam activities here.
We had a few spammers over the last few days and immediately disabled their profiles:
norah01
gukamaoo
ritababy
angel4love

More details on the message they send are on the following wikipages:

We are now looking into implementing some automatic ways to catch this as well as allowing any users on WiserEarth to easily report a spam

It's the first caveat of the internet, it seems. :) I've been very touched by the amount of understanding our community has shown - spam is certainly something no one wants to have showing up in their inbox.

I received two such "invitations" - from norah01 and from gukama (not gukamaoo).

I would suggest that "peggy" change her subject line because "peggy sent you a message" looks just like one of those spammers.

I also received mails from norah01. The spam mails should be controlled...

I have received onemial from norah01.

One way of cutting down what gets into your inbox is to change your settings so that internal messages are not sent to your email address. While this will also turn off alerts of new messages on WiserEarth, it will keep your email inbox free from these spammers as we work on a fix.

To do so, click on your profile, and go to "User Settings". Then, under "Your Email Settings", uncheck "Email my messages received on WiserEarth".

Hey, all:

Hey, Honore: Would it not also help you, if, when we report scam/spam emails, we include whether it is internal (WE) or external (regular email), the date, and time it was sent? Some of these reports are coming in after you closed scammers' accounts, so to me it is not clear how and where they are still coming through. Destination, date, and time helps isolate events. If people without accounts are still just opening the website and copying email addresses from personal profiles, only hiding/deleting email addresses would solve this, but without knowing if these accounts still exist, we could still be swatting in the dark.

To me, vague reports have little value.

true David, reporting the time is important. It doesn't sound like these reports are referring to emails they received after those accounts were closed. I'm pretty sure when an account is closed, it really is closed, and thus disabled from sending messages. But if the time is reported though, we can catch new accounts with similar names, or accounts which were supposed to be disabled.

To all: The tech team is aware of who the recent spam was sent to. So there isn't a need to report spam unless you've received it within the past couple days. Thanks.
