Daniel and I want to tack on a rally in front of the Pentacrest to follow/end the politicos in Philips Hall. We think it brings a necessary bit of excitement to the event that will be attractive to the bigger-name people invited.

I am going to get the paperwork started on that Monday. I will schedule the pentacrest for 3-5 or 3-4:30 so we still have sunlight.

I have submitted paperwork to have the pentacrest reserved from 3-5pm.

great work robert, any fees associated with that or any further action we need to take to have the pentacrest? thanks

The equipment (podium, microphones, etc.) would need to be rented or purchased, or in some way provided by us.

The paperwork for the pentacrest event needs far more details before it will be reviewed by the person with the authority to grant us permission. We need details about number of tables, signs, equipment, who is speaking, etc.

I filled out the form with hypothetical speakers and described the event on the pentacrest as a band, several tables, a small podium/platform, lectern with microphone.

The time available for us to use the Pentacrest will be 1pm-7pm (this includes setting up and cleaning up the pentacrest).

I also extended the Phillips Hall event time to 6pm. This will serve as a back-up venue in case it is raining.

Hey Robert,

If we are able to secure a speaker, will we be able to get a stage/mic/amp for them in time? How would we afford this and/or would UISG or UI donate that if the speaker is a prez candidate? Also, if its a prez candidate they might have their own infrastructure or we could hit them up for the money to rent equipment.
Thoughts?

Barrett offerred help in this matter. Also, UIEC has some funds if we needed to rent something.

I wouldn't ask the presidential staff for help in setting up the event. They are going to think we don't have an event established.
Sm_avatar
I think also that UDems would help if I asked.

[Getting off the theme of this thread a little bit, but to finish off the conversation that has been going on]:

At the UIEC meeting tonight I spoke to the costs of setting up this event and they are okay with spending some money. I won't trouble you with the minor details of getting assistance/subsidies from other student groups. Suffice it to say, UIEC has sufficient funds to outfit the rally by ourselves if need be.

Hey, Daniel? What is the plan to utilize two hours of time if we are unable confirm speakers?
Sm_avatar
I think we generally go with a standard rally type event, with people chanting, holding signs, just your regular vanilla bean rally
Sm_avatar
we have to remember to get some sort of step it up sign and get a picture with everyone in front of the old capitol to send to national

As for press release, I think I'll wait to send that out until we get some confirmations, but I'll send it out by Thursday at latest otherwise
I'll work on putting together a list of people to send that to

The steel pan band isn't able to play Saturday (there's a big national conference this weekend) but UIEC members have drums.

I'm going to scale back UIEC's expenditures. I'm not going to rent a podium and I will rent a smaller PA system. As presidential candidates are not coming but are sending surrogates instead I am imaging a much smaller crowd and less formal.

sounds good
