About  [Edit]

I'd like to hear from people who feel that domesticated animals (pets) generally suffer under human care (or not) and that feel we need to seriously reevaluate our relationship with them (for the benefit of animals). Environmental ethics is generally concerned about species health and protection (as part of the broader environment), but fails to address concerns about individual beings who suffer under human care (outside of nature, but still part of it). While animal welfare organizations generally ask us to take care of our pets, yet never question the highly unequal, problematic relationship we have with them. Should pets exist? Why? Are pets a product of nature or a product of cultural choices (artificial selection)? What should we do about the "overpopulation" of pets? Let's talk about it!
