Project Description:

To make Geocentrum truly sustainable, through small initiatives for a start, then working on more complex supply issues like energy.

Current Status:

We have prepared a short project plan for this project - that can be found in the project file below.  Our current focus is on getting clear information in front of the users of the geocentrum building to encourage everyone to use less water and energy, consume less, produce less waste, and recycle.

More info:

Feel free to post further suggestions to this discussion, or contact either Martina or Mariana to get involved with making some change happen!!

Sorry guys, but I couldnt figure out at fist that this was supposed to be Sustainable Geocentrum discussion arena. I think the name might be misleading for new users!

Anyway, here it's what going on! We are acting to make Geolibrary reduce the amount of paper used and trying to cut down on paper flippers.

I had a meeting with the librarian at Geolibrary. He had a great impression of the idea of cutting down on paper flippers for books and is willing to take action as soon as possible. He is first gonna address the point with the Geolibrary staff and then they are going to decide whether to reduce the size of the paper flippers or to eliminate them, just like that! BUT this is not it> he is going to start also a discussion about this within the network of all Lund university libraries to make them willing to act and cut down on paper use! I must say I was very pleased with his availability and his interest in our idea. So, change can happen!

He said it might take a month to implement the new measure, but he is going to keep me update with every step he will take regarding this and I’ll report back to you.

He also gave me the name of a professor that is involved in environmental and sustainability matters within Geocentrum and that will be very proactive and could help us when it comes to Geocentrum environmental assessment. I thought this might be useful for Nina and Tim and their evaluation plan. The guy is Dan Hammarlund tel.0462227985 dan.hammarlund@geol.lu.se">dan.hammarlund@geol.lu.se.

Cheers,

Martina
