I propose that we open a discussion here focusing on potential permaculture projects that people want to do, or would like assistance on completing.

We met with Steve over breakfast this morning and he has encouraged us to forward these upcoming events to your attention.

We also talked about the possibilities of people sharing projects on-the-ground regarding sustainability like intalling a hot water heater, sheet mulching a garden bed, or even preparing or preserving seasonal organic food. So if you have any projects you would like assistance and helping hands on, please post them on the WiserEarth page: http://www.wiserearth.org/group/sacpermaguild

Peace,

Ming and Shaina

1) Steve has the idea of people coming over to assist and learn about putting in a solar roof, as well as turning his garden into a showcase of post carbon plantings before spring 2009.

---

2) I have a friend who is " ... planning to build a 2-story passive solar post-and-beam strawbale house in Placerville, CA." and has requested assistance from people interested in permaculture and community. She has already moved 400 bales of rice straw to the site.

---

3) Shaina and I are planning on either taking the Train or car on Saturday to:

The Big One is Coming!
http://www.wiserearth.org/group/TheBigOne
A big, free event with environmental and social justice groups gathering in Golden Gate State Park in San Francisco. Will include a Permaculture Symposium.

Would you like to carpool ?

---

4) I am interested in learning how to preserve locally grown foods:
Preserve the Summer Bounty!
Food Preservation Demonstrations.  The UC cooperative extension is providing demonstrations of food preservation techniques

Stop the Spraying    I am interested in looking into ways to network and get this spraying stopped for West Nile Virus and what other reason seems to get invented for spraying period. From a broadcast on KRXA 'think for yourself radio' out of Monterey- were these two links given out by 'Emily' from California Alliance at 831 421- 9305. www.don'tsprayus.com and www.dontspraycalifornia.org

Ming and I are out of town for a couple of weeks, visiting family & friends, and attending the Echoes in Time Primitive Skills Gathering and the West Coast Climate Change Convergence, and we hope to bring back many fun ideas, information, skills and  some rejuvenated energy to Sacramento.

Some urban permaculture projects we are up to include:

Worms--Our urban vermicompost experiment seems to be going well. We have learned some useful lessons about ways to keeps down smell and nasty anaerobic bacteria, keep down flies, reuse materials, etc. Will probably post/share more about that at some other point.

Garden--We got a plot with the City of Sacramento! We have a bunch of vegetables growing, mostly annuals, but we hope to create a quasi perrenial permaculture oasis on 10 by 10 garden plot in the future.  Probable future projects we possibly could use help on includes seperating worm castings from the worms, and sheetmulching to create a winter garden with lost of green manure/cover crops and other fun stuff.

Solar Oven-We made a solar oven out of cardboard, aluminum foil, duct tape and the Solar Cooker's International design. We tested it slightly; it heats water. We will test it more thouroughly at the two camping events we are going to right now. It folds up into a backpack! If other people are interested, we possibly could have a solar oven making party/workshop skillshare after we get back.

What are other folks up to? Would people be interested in having a meeting/potluck/work party? When would be a good date/time for folks?
