This one is very special: http://gerrymarten.com/ 's " Human Ecology - Basic Concepts for Sustainable Development". This sounds simple, but his book about his work at http://ecotippingpoints.org is absolutely unique. 100 good practices of turning major vicious cycles into virtuous cycles. Wellll documented in lively articles. Including pictures and graphics illustrating the System Scientific Approach of detecting the cycle's elements and finding the One Key Element which needs be addressed and influenced to turn the entire cycle around. Making rivers flow again in deserts, re-animating island fish stocks, turning violent neighbourhoods into peaceful communities etc. --- The strength lies in the combination of good practice analysis, journalist, down to earth scientific explanation, comprehensible to normal people and young people (usable in education!). SO, this one is really a bridge to empowerment and action, combined to not only a writing scholar BUT to a consulting community ready to help out anywhere in the world and pursue further study in this field. We are working on producing a promotional brochure and communicating this, for example, into the UNITED NATIONS DECADE of EDUCATION for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.Which is fantastic and possible, which is, I think; another particular potential compared to most world changing publications. |

And of course Copland MacDonald's Matters of Consequence and others, which he mentions in his recent post to the group but also fit well in THIS thread :-) http://mattersofconsequence.com/ HERE: http://www.wisdompage.com/ebooksinfo.html

While we are aware of sites like Project Gutenberg and the like, it would be much more useful if the books you list here are books that you actually have read and found to be useful and important for others to read as well. In writing the list, please provide minimum information such as book title, author, year of publication and URL where people can go read/download the book.
From this thread, we will compile a list in a wikipage, so others can benefit from this information as well. Thank you.
