Hi all,

I started this group because I'm fascinated by ties between psychology and behavior and the potential to promote sustainable behavior using psychology as a tool. Currently, I am looking into grad school in psychology and would like to incorporate ecopsychology and organic psychology into practice. I realize individuals, communities, and societies have the potential to incorporate these values in many ways.

I'd love to hear of your backgrounds and experience or interest related to this group. Please take time to introduce yourselves by replying to this discussion topic. I hope this to be an active forum of diverse thought and hope to share applications of that thought to improve our lot as a whole. Please add your talents, creativity and curiosity to our group. There are so many layers of our consciousness. I look forward to learning from you!

Big ups for starting this group Green Stine, I just wrote a paper about a relevant topic.

Once you realize that you, the individual, are apart of an endless energy cycle between the biotic and abiotic elements of the environment, you realize you are apart of something godly and divine and will more likely work more to benefit this cycle, and less time pleasing the self. After you start thinking as Earth, you soon see yourself as Earth.

The human mind can be a prison, ask Einstein, don't take my word for it. Environmentally literate humans will induce a more ecologically compliant civilization. We all need to push for better education on Environmental Science and start our kids with this understanding at a younger age. It's somewhat a precautionary step to prevent environmentally illiterate people and corps. (who blindly and thoughtlessly put profit before planet) to ever exist in our society.

The more I read and become involved in Buddhist understandings about compassion and mindfulness, the more I appreciate their understandings about the interrelationships of everything in the living and non-living, or biotic and abiotic universe. It seems to me that behavior can influence ones' psychology -- especially if it's behavior adopted to feel a part of a cultural or social context. And no doubt, various approaches to mind-training can affect ones' psychology, which can affect ones' behavior. Wonderful, fertile topic here to explore, and for me, a large part of it has to do with how much we feel a part of our greater environment and a co-equal with other sentient and perhaps no so sentient being, or feel separate from them all.

Hello!
There have been a few influences that have nurtured my presently evolving dance with this beautiful earth. One has been plants, as i have explored my relationship to them, and slowed down, to be with them- and listen to their teachings. This is not a realm easily put to words. As i began to study the medicinal realm of plants, i focused on a few at a time, and allowed myself to be the student, taking in the many qualities. 15 years later, i am still so new to it! It's a beautiful exploration.
The other major influence has been a deeply committed yoga study for the past six years, with a focus on Ahimsa- non harming. This is an amazing journey, a very personal one- but i can say that the choices i make today come very much from that committed practice.
I am coming to know that in order for me to do the work that i can do out in the world, i first must do the work internally. :)
There are many approaches to this kind of wakening, this is the one that i am in harmony with.
Thanks for inviting me to be a part of this group!
In community- for the earth and all her creatures!
Linda
