Has the dev team considered using the Eventful api - http://api.eventful.com ? No need to reinvent this wheel from either a technology or data point of view. For instance a quick look for 'sustainability' shows 763 events in the USA http://eventful.com/events?q=sustainability&l=usa&t=&c=

David,
I can't recall if we did ever look at the Eventful api, I will pass this on to Arash. Thanks for the suggestion Peggy |

We should be able to list events with multiple cities. Events that are located in different areas but which have the same description shouldn't need to have separate entries.

I quite often come across a page (event, forum, etc.) that i want to send/email to someone such as the Harvest Festival in Michigan or the discussion/forum on California Food system Network. It would be great if there was a "send this page email button" feature on each page (i think this feature used to be available on some pages and not others?)

I've been brainstorming ways to link invitations and site use more intimately and it seems like event invitations is a perfect way to increase site usage and our user base. With our existing framework plus a modular addition, I think we could be a serious competitor to eVite. I constantly hear about how horrible eVite is for managing event invitations.
It seems like maybe the thing to do is establish a method for inviting someone via email to interact with any of the objects on the site, whether this be a job, event, group or resource. There could be a link in the email that reads, click here to accept this event invitation, job offer, acknowledge this reference to your work, etc. This action would create a profile in need of population and the user could decide to enter information or just leave it as a placeholder for the email address, linked to the event, resource, org or whatever. Ideas, suggestions, concerns? Thanks! |

There are many events that started a long time ago but haven't ended yet, because their end date is still days, weeks, or months away. These are the events that a user first sees when they want to browse events...but at first glance, to me, it looks like these are old & outdated events... which might lead some to think that the Events database is updated rarely and managed poorly.
I'm not sure whats the best solution to make it easier to navigate events, but what if we started out by color coding the start and end dates (for example, maybe the start date can be green and the end date can be red).
I'd like to see same-day one-day events, or events which are on their last day, float to the top, and be on the first page people see when they click on "Events" under browse.
