Hi everyone,

Thanks james for creating a place to meet and continue our brainstorming session.

To keep the momentum going, I have uploaded 3 documents everyone on the team should read.

They were created by Jenny Huang, the Chair of the International Free and Open Software Foundation.

She had to attend another conference on the same dates but will be joining us.

I am new to WiserEarth.org, so if you have some tips to make the use experience easier, please share with others.

May I just start by saying that it was a pleasure to have met with you all and am very excited by this collaboration.

Now, on a technical note...I am having problems downloading the two PDF documents. Does anyone have any enlightening ideas? The PPT's are ok.

Sophie, thanks so much for the work you did...

Lorenzo, I am glad you are here because I did not get to talk with you about a lot of the good points and ideas you had.

I was really impressed with what Greg Wendt had to day. I feel like he is at the cutting edge and much of the stuff he offered during our session was great (indeed i was a bit overwhelmed) and we need to consider it. We just have to make sure that we are not creating more layers of complexity in our lives...because the idea is that technology needs to be easy to understand and to use to be effective and empowering.

That makes me wonder what are our follow up goals for this group? Maybe we could create or organize a process to continue the discussion about how to proceed with the PIE Collaboration Portal? So how are we going to do this?

I think there were a lot of good threads of discussion there. Maybe break it up into some core themes in the notes relevant to the larger group consensus of the primary goals/objectives that we used Chris Bui's voting tool to obtain on day two.

That relates to another point the points we selected as a group were at the low end of the scale in terms of what the overall group selected as priorities so that has to be reconciled in some way.

It is not clear to me about the specific responsibilities of the PIE Collaboration group in relation to the Global Summit. My thought is that basically PIE Collaboration Portal is the IT Empowerment group.

What I thought was important to look at was the possible roles for this group in relation to TGS:

  • Preparing for the conference sections
  • Documentation of past events such as the one we recently participated in
  • Mapping of network including profiles for participants and also the organizations they represent and related projects and projects of interest
  • Evaluation systems to help improve the process
  • Assist the development of the PIE collaboration sectors to develop effective IT tools to facilitate the process
  • Enable connections between nodes to promote collective IQ both within and outside TGS network
  • Design easy to use IT to enable effective collaboration among non-geeks
  • Facilitate collaboration between isolated global regions to bring people together
  • Prepare for events to enable effective communications between participating "Digital Villages" during the Summits in several locations around the world.

Hi Everyone,

I'm here!   Sorry that I have to miss the first TGS, a conflict which I was not able to avoid. From the meeting minutes and conversations, looks like it was a very  productive event! Kudos to all  who participated in this effort.

To Jeff's question, I think  a charter or manifesto will be a good starting point with targeted deliverables for 2009, the charter should highlight the business objectives (in relation to TGS), scope, program structure, as well as the benefits from the initial deliverables.  We perhaps need to do this via a few conference calls with online facilities.

We should also agree the charter will be a living document, i.e. to be updated every 6-8 months, so that we don't need to spend our time to make it perfect but use it as a guilde and roadmap for the group members.

The survey inputs that Melanie sent out was very interesting, we should also discuss how those inputs should be used.

Dearest 1PIE Collaborators:

I totally agree with Jeff and Jenny that we need to create some working groups as we agreed at TGS to address  the immediate concerns:

1. Create online forum (WIKI) with the best tools, course ware and custom social network and integrate it into the platform.

2.  Must have cataloging and archiving for searchability of each topic and comment

3. Create working group to explore available online tools for citizen voting systems - simple way to interact, super thin client interface & rock solid security.

Must be scalable for multi cultural interactive input - - international languages - icons and graphics

4.  Plan for development of future taxonomy for a sustainability index with a common vocabulary that lives above the standards groups.

There are many different talents within the 1PIE group and also different interests.  Some of the areas to concentrate on when we draft up a working plan are:

1.  Ease of collaboration for discussion, online conferences etc. among core team leaders

2.  Working group logistics for meetings, milestones and schedules of 1PIE Portal team

3. Super simple collaboration framwork for other working groups in each of the sector groups

4.  Framework for outcome with governance rules for sustainability index that is super clear, outcome based, open and especially transparent

5.  Groundwork and research for a citizen voting system to provide input via cell phone and remote devices from anywhere in the world.

Please share your ideas and comments,

Pamela
